This CD is Judge’s setting of the Latin Mass for the Dead. Written in 1975 but unrecorded until more than 40 years later, when it was released on CD in 2016.

It features fifty voices from The Crouch End Festival Chorus, conducted by David Temple, a four-piece rock band, four trumpets, four trombones, orchestral percussion, and the voice of baritone, Nigel Richards.

Judge’s Requiem Mass is a major piece of symphonic, choral, rock music, and is one of his most significant achievements.

A Requiem Mass is traditionally dedicated to one deceased individual. However, as a young man at the time it was written, the composer had not yet lost anyone significant to him, so this Mass had no original dedicatee. Forty years later, when the recording was finally completed, Fiona Lindsay suggested that all performers on the recording should be invited to submit images of departed loved ones, and the Requiem would be dedicated to the people pictured. Accordingly, all photographs on the front cover are of departed loved ones of the singers, musicians, and other participants in this recording, and it is to their memory that this Requiem Mass is dedicated.
