The music on this album is taken from my DVD movie ‘The Garden of Fifi Chamoix’ (2017). It has been re-mixed, re-edited and re-mastered, and is now intended to stand alone as a piece of instrumental music, rather than being a ‘souvenir’ of the film. It now becomes my second purely instrumental album, the first being ‘The Vesica Massage’ (2006).

I had always thought that this music was irrevocably fixed to the images of the movie, but in 2021, I finally listened to the music a few times without the picture, something I had never done before, and I realised that I had been mistaken. The music in isolation came over as fresh and exciting, and it became clear that, with some editing and remixing, it would make a splendid instrumental album.

It is music that is full of unexpected twists and turns, with great performances from David Jackson (Saxophones and Whistles), John Ellis (Guitars and Electric Ukulele), Helen Lunt (Cello) and Ret Warwick (Piano), and (he says, blushing modestly) with some cracking tunes.

The result is my new CD, ‘Music from The Garden of Fifi Chamoix’ I have to say that I really love this album. It’s good music, and is now reproduced in higher definition than was possible on the DVD. Give it a listen.

Hi Hugh, just a quick note that I pre-ordered the BIG box; I was lucky to pass this off as a birthday gift to myself ;). I’ve been passing the Burning Shed order page around, but I do not believe it will be necessary as it seems to be selling in droves. Anyhow thanks for all the work you do to preserve these recordings; it surely is a massive undertaking. I hope I get to see the band play live again here in Montreal, but none of us are getting any younger…. Mark Mark Penny
